Una de las principales tareas de la lingüística formal consiste en construir un dispositivo que genere y/o reconozca todas las oraciones gramaticales de una lengua y ninguna de las agramaticales. Si bien en la &lt;br /&gt;
tradición de las ciencias de la computación esto se puede hacer potencialmente mediante autómatas o mediante gramáticas, en la tradición lingüística es sumamente importante que el algoritmo que se &lt;br /&gt;
proponga incluya, a su vez, una función recursiva que asigne estructura a las oraciones. Como afirma Gazdar et al. (1985: ix) “quien no se preocupa por construir tal función, queda fuera del juego de la &lt;br /&gt;
lingüística teórica” (traducción nuestra). Este requisito hace que para esta tradición sean las gramáticas y no los autómatas la opción obligada.&lt;br /&gt;
Ahora bien, no resulta obvio a priori qué clase de herramientas formales pueden utilizarse en la construcción de esas gramáticas. Esto ha llevado a una proliferación de formalismos alternativos en la &lt;br /&gt;
tradición de la lingüística computacional, interesada en implementar computacionalmente los modelos de lingüística teórica, ya sea para utilizarlos en tareas de procesamiento del lenguaje natural, ya sea &lt;br /&gt;
para poner a prueba los alcances de esos marcos teóricos o sus análisis particulares. En este seminario se propone hacer un recorrido por varios de estos formalismos gramaticales, así como por algunas de &lt;br /&gt;
sus implementaciones computacionales concretas.&lt;br /&gt;
Para hacer este recorrido, en la primera unidad se introducirán los conocimientos necesarios para ofrecer un marco que permita un tratamiento matemáticamente riguroso de las lenguas naturales. La &lt;br /&gt;
segunda unidad estará dedicada a las gramáticas independientes de contexto y la Gramática de Estructura de Frase Generalizada (GPSG en inglés), un marco teórico que se diseñó para ser débilmente &lt;br /&gt;
equivalente a una gramática independiente de contexto a la vez que utiliza diversos recursos para superar los problemas que desde Chomsky (1957) se habían señalado para esta clase de gramáticas. La&lt;br /&gt;
unidad culmina con una exposición de las dos razones que llevaron al fracaso de GPSG: (i) el descubrimiento de que los lenguajes naturales incluyen propiamente a los lenguajes generados por las &lt;br /&gt;
gramáticas independientes de contexto, (ii) el descubrimiento de que GPSG, si bien era computacionalmente prometedora, resultaba intratable.&lt;br /&gt;
Las siguientes tres unidades están dedicadas a examinar en detalle algunas gramáticas formalmente rigurosas que pertenecen a las tres grandes familias que es posible identificar en la tradición de la &lt;br /&gt;
lingüística computacional. Estas tres familias se diferencian en el modo en que conciben la naturaleza de la combinación entre los ítems lingüísticos: (i) las gramáticas basadas en constituyentes, que &lt;br /&gt;
conciben la estructura de las oraciones como agrupamientos de ítems léxicos jerárquicamente organizados y etiquetados; (ii) gramáticas de dependencias, que conciben la estructura como un &lt;br /&gt;
conjunto de relaciones de dependencia entre ítems léxicos, (iii) gramáticas categoriales, que conciben la gramática como un álgebra con ítems léxicos categorizados como funciones u objetos —entendidos &lt;br /&gt;
en el sentido de Frege—, que guían su combinatoria. El recorrido incluye la presentación, manipulación y ejercitación con gramáticas basadas en reglas definidas manualmente, así como la &lt;br /&gt;
utilización de gramáticas inducidas a partir de corpus.&lt;br /&gt;

● Familiarización con las herramientas formales y los modos de representación de la estructura sintáctica de distintos tipos de teorías gramaticales.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
● Entrenamiento en la escritura y manipulación de gramáticas explícitas a los fines de su implementación computacional.&lt;br /&gt;

● Entrenamiento en la comprensión lectora de textos en inglés sobre las temáticas abordadas (textos académicos, tutoriales y posteos en foros especializados) y en la búsqueda de &lt;br /&gt;
información sobre cómo realizar implementaciones o resolver errores (troubleshooting), a fin de promover un perfil con las herramientas necesarias para poder continuar la formación y &lt;br /&gt;
especialización de manera autónoma.&lt;br /&gt;

● Acercamiento a la utilización de modelos preentrenados para tareas de parsing.&lt;br /&gt;

● Familiarización con los parsers y las implementaciones computacionales de las gramáticas formales.&lt;br /&gt;

● Evaluación de distintos formalismos a partir de la comparación de su capacidad generativa fuerte y débil en relación con distintos fenómenos gramaticales, tales como control vs. ascenso, &lt;br /&gt;
subordinación, elipsis, coordinación, diversas restricciones de coocurrencia, alternancias argumentales, orden de palabras, etc.&lt;br /&gt;
